One of the most important aspects of your pet’s overall health is their dental health. Periodontal disease is the most common disease affecting companion animals. Addressing dental disease is a top priority of all of our doctors at The Heights Veterinary Clinic. During your pet’s annual exams our doctors will evaluate their oral health and look for evidence of gingivitis, fractures, tooth root abscesses, mobile teeth, resorptive lesions, oral masses, and a variety of other oral diseases. After conducting an oral exam, we will provide you with a suggestive treatment plan and cost estimate based on the exam findings.

Our dental procedures are performed under general anesthesia, utilizing state-of-the-art monitoring equipment with safety as our number one priority. Once your pet is safely under general anesthesia, a full set of digital dental x-rays are taken. This allows us to identify diseases that are located underneath the gum line which is not evident in an oral examination.

Once x-rays are performed, we will call you with any additional concerns and recommendations should extractions be needed.. After any dental extractions are completed, the teeth are scaled with an ultrasonic cleaner and polished. Our dentals are not completed when the procedure is finished, but we are committed to providing ongoing pain management and a follow up visit to ensure the extraction sites (if extractions were needed) have fully healed.

The final component to our dental procedures includes discussing at home dental care in a manner that is reasonable for you and your pet. We understand that not all dogs and cats tolerate maintenance oral care, and we therefore have a variety of options available, including dental toothpaste, dental sprays and gels, antibacterial dental chews, and food and water additives.
